Dan Campolieta

Dan Campolieta (B. Mus., 2008) has released his first CD as a pianist and composer of chamber music. The title work, Guided Imagery, is a 10-movement song cycle based on the poems of Linda Beher, written for bass-baritone voice, oboe, and piano. Exploring love, loss, beauty, betrayal, and mystery, the work takes the listener to a dream world full of vivid imagery. Minimalist in nature, Guided Imagery is built on slowly progressing ostinati in the piano with the voice and oboe presenting the poetry in a chant-like manner above the harmonic landscape. Also featured on the CD is Seven Sketches for Clarinet Trio (2010). As the title implies, each short movement is but a sketch of musical material. Each little piece is a flare that sparks and ends before any of the motifs develop. Pulling from classical, bebop, Latin, tango, and funk styles, the piece has the effect of walking through the hallway outside of practice rooms in a music school, sampling little snippets of music coming from each room.

Dan graduated from UConn in 2008 with a B.M. in organ performance, and a B.S. in music education. Dan was involved with the choirs, jazz ensembles, and collegium, and accompanied as many as 40 instrumental and vocal students at a time. He currently serves as organist and associate music director for Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, an 1,800 member church with a nationally recognized music program. www.dancampolieta.com
