Hazel Malcolmson

Bassoonist Hazel Malcolmson is a Boston area freelancer and the Instructor of Bassoon at the University of Connecticut.  She has performed as a guest with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Radius Ensemble, East Coast Scoring, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Bangor Symphony Orchestra (Bangor, ME), Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Midsummer Opera, Emmanuel Music, and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.  She has coached the bassoon students with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras and the University of Southern Maine Music Academy, and maintains a private teaching studio.  Hazel soloed in the U.S. premiere of Marc André’s da für Fagott und Ensemble and she can be heard in Mohammed Fairouz’s Sumeida’s Song on the Bridge Records label.  Hazel received a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory and her bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School and spent summers participating in Kent Blossom Music, Pacific Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra and Music Academy of the West.  Her major teachers include Richard Ranti, David Carroll, Judith LeClair, and Gregg Henegar.
