MM Candidate, Trumpet

Adiel Nájera is a M.M. candidate and graduate teaching assistant for the UCMB and Pep Bands at The University of Connecticut. Adiel attended Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education. He graduated in Spring 2019 Magna Cum Laude. He graduated from Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas, in 2015.

Adiel served as an operations manager for the Lumberjack Marching Band in his final year and was awarded the Outstanding Bandsmen of the Year Award for the 2018-2019 academic year, recognizing his commitment and dedication to the SFA Band Program, voted on by his fellow peers.

At Stephen F. Austin State University, Adiel studied the trumpet with Dr. Gary Wurtz. Adiel participated in many ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, The Orchestra of the Pines, Jazz Band, The Lumberjack Marching Band, The Roarin’ Buzzsaws Pep Band, The Empyrean Trumpet Ensemble, student-lead brass quintets, and The Latin Lumberjacks.

Notable performances with the SFA Wind Ensemble included concerts at The Charles W. Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts in Richardson, TX and the Lila Cockrell Theater in San Antonio, TX as part of the TMEA convention. Adiel also had plenty of performance opportunities in the greater East Texas area and performed at weekly Mass during his final two years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches, TX.

With the Wind Ensemble Brass Section, Adiel performed alongside the Dallas Winds at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, TX. With the Empyrean Trumpet Ensemble, Adiel twice qualified for the semi-finals round at the National Trumpet Competition in 2017 in Denver, CO and in 2018 in Denton, TX. The Empyrean Trumpet Ensemble was also invited to perform as a Music Showcase for TMEA in 2017 and The International Trumpet Guild in 2018. With the Lumberjack Marching Band, Adiel traveled to Dublin, Ireland to march in The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2018.

Adiel’s professional affiliations include, Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), The National Trumpet Competition (NTC), The International Trumpet Guild (ITG) and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

A native Texan, Adiel is an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. Adiel enjoys playing the trumpet with his father and brother who also play the trumpet. He loves to travel and spend time with family and friends.
