Andy Peng

DMA Candidate, Violin


Praised by The Daily Campus for his “haunting beauty and incredibly deep feeling and
resonance,” violinist Andy Peng performs frequently as soloist, recitalist, and collaborator. A
native Clevelander, Peng was a student of Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music, is a
graduate of the Yale School of Music and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and is
currently pursuing his Doctorate in Violin Performance at the University of Connecticut under the
guidance of Dr. Solomiya Ivakhiv. Peng has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout
his career including the Yale School of Music Vista Chamber Music, Indianapolis Matinee
Musicale Collegiate Competition, Three Arts National Competition, and the Cleveland Rotary
Young Artist Competition. An experienced orchestral musician, Peng regularly performs across
North America and Europe in leading venues under the direction of acclaimed conductors
including Franz Welser-Most, Marin Alsop, Giancarlo Guerrero, and Peter Oundjian. With a
passion for new music, Peng frequently appears on the New Music New Haven concert series,
and specifically has worked closely with composer and pianist Alishan Gezgin – a collaboration
that led to the premiere of a new piano trio in March 2018.
