Jessica Bloch

MM Candidate, Voice

Bio

Jessica Bloch is an American-born soprano from Sarasota, Florida and has performed both in the United States and Europe. Her interest in performance began with dance and music theatre during her time at Florida State University. Jessica danced with Blue Fire Dance Company and Level Dance Company, as well as appearing as Mona in Chicago the Musical with the Student Theatre Association. Upon taking voice lessons during her early years at university, Jessica was encouraged to pursue singing classically. Soon after, her first role was Suor Osmina in Florida State Opera’s production of Suor Angelica. The following summer, Jessica went on to sing Strabinio in L’impresario in angustie, and Lolette in La Rondine with La Musica Lirica and the Voci nel Montefeltro Festival. After completing the program in Italy, she was very inspired to pursue opera; and so continued her degree at Florida State University in both theatre and music.

In the last couple years of her undergraduate degree, Jessica played Mrs. Buchanan in Street Scene, sang in the opera chorus of The Rake’s Progress, and premiered Princess Gilda in Lori Laitman’s new opera outreach production of The Three Feathers with Florida State Opera. After graduating from Florida State University, she went on to obtain her Master Performance Certificate in Voice from the University of Connecticut under the tutelage of Dr. Constance Rock. There she premiered her first Mozart role as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. Jessica has continued to sing Mozart as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), both under the baton of Maestro Christian Schulz at the Vienna Summer Music Festival in Austria. She has also sung Despina (Cosi fan tutte) in the scenes program with Redwoods Opera Workshop. Other notable roles she has recently sung are Noemie in Jules Massenet’s opera Cendrillon and Suor Genovieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica.

Jessica’s musical education also includes the CoOPERAtive program headed by Laura Brooks Rice, and  Russian Opera Workshop, founded and directed by Ghenady Meirson.  Jessica performed with the Maidens Ensemble in their production Eugene Onegin as well as the Russian Romances Concert in the latter half of the summer 2018. Jessica has recently made her Hartford Opera Theater debut with their New in November Festival as Titania in Paul Richard’s new opera, The Loathly Lady. She looks forward to debuting another new work with UConn Opera Theater as Miss Johnson in the World Premiere of Bessie and Ma, composed by Douglas Buchanan. During this next year, Jessica plans on finishing her studies with Dr. Constance Rock and working towards completing her Master of Music in Voice Performance.
