The Symphonic Band consists of music majors and students from throughout the university campus who are selected for membership by audition. The band performs music written for full wind band including compositions from current contemporary wind and percussion music to transcriptions of standard orchestral literature that have been adapted especially well to the wind band. This band presents two or more performances in each semester including concerts at locations around Connecticut. Recently performed repertoire includes works by Aaron Copland, Darius Milhaud, Vaclav Nelhybel, Malcolm Arnold, and David Gillingham.
The Symphonic Band meets on Monday and Wednesday from 2:30pm-4:30pm and Friday 2:30pm-3:20pm.
The Concert Band is made up of students throughout the university campus who play wind and percussion instruments. This ensemble provides a great opportunity for those who have participated in band at some time but chose not to major in music. The concert band represents a true cross section of the university academic majors. Recently performed repertoire includes works by Soichi Konagaya, Norman Dello Joio, Derek Bourgeois, Francis McBeth, and Gustav Holst.
The band performs a variety of music ranging from contemporary to the standard ensemble literature. The Concert Band meets in the spring semester only. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30pm –6:30pm.
