Michael “Mikey” Ando is a dedicated music educator with strong roots in inclusive practices. Massachusetts native, Mikey earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a minor in Disability Studies from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting at the University of Connecticut, where he holds a graduate assistantship with the UConn Athletic Bands.

Before beginning graduate studies, Mikey taught middle and high school band and elementary music in Massachusetts public schools for two years. His primary instrument is flute, and he also teaches private lessons in flute, clarinet, and alto saxophone. He has experience teaching marching band music, drill, and color guard, and is an alumnus and current administrative staff member of the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps, where he performed in the color guard before joining the admin team.

Outside of his professional work, Mikey enjoys reading, watching Major League Baseball and RuPaul’s Drag Race, and spending time outdoors with his 10-year-old lab mix, Pascal.
