Brooke McEwan
Instructor of Bassoon
Bassoonist Brooke McEwan joined the faculty of the University of Connecticut in Spring of 2018. She is co-principal bassoon in the United States Coast Guard Band and second bassoon in the Rhode Island Philharmonic. A frequent substitute musician with many New England regional orchestras including the Hartford Symphony and Springfield Symphony Orchestras, she is also an alumna of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Ms. McEwan was a student of Benjamin Kamins at Rice University, where she received her MM in bassoon performance, and received her Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Louisiana State University, where she was a concerto competition winner. She also studied at the Brevard Music Center, Music Academy of the West, and was a two-time Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. She has performed under the batons of orchestral masters such as Kurt Masur, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Slatkin, and John Williams, and American wind ensemble greats Frank Battisti, Donald Hunsberger, H. Robert Williams, and Frederick Fennell.
