Laura Yawney

Instructor of Oboe


Laura Yawney currently holds the English Horn/Oboe position in the United States Coast Guard Band. Previously, she was a Civic Orchestra of Chicago Fellow and Principal Oboe of the Endless Mountain Music Festival. She has performed with ensembles such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Illinois Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Bay Atlantic Symphony, Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Symphony in C, and Reláche, a long-standing Philadelphia chamber ensemble specializing in new music. She has studied at the Chautauqua Music Festival and Eastern Music Festival, and she has performed in master classes led by Dr. Nancy King, Katherine Needleman, and Mark Hill. She was a featured concerto soloist with the University of Delaware Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and the Newark (DE) Symphony Orchestra in 2016. Originally from Clarksville, Maryland, Laura holds degrees from the University of Delaware and Temple University, and her primary teachers are Peter Smith, Jeff O’Donnell, and Barbara Girdler.
