With a repertoire of over 80 roles, ROD NELMAN has performed with the New World Symphony, Washington National Opera, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Arena di Verona, Florida Grand Opera, Virginia Symphony, Michigan Opera Theater, Milwaukee Symphony, Florentine Opera, Fort Worth Opera, and Chicago Opera Theatre among others, and has been on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera since 2009. Rod is also highly respected as a vocal pedagogue and has given masterclasses in singing and stage skills with Opera Orlando, Fort Worth Opera, Sacramento Opera, Utah Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Orlando Opera, University Wisconsin Superior, University Of Minnesota Duluth, University of North Carolina Pembrook, Sacramento State University, and University of Central Florida.
Recently he performed Starek in Jenufa with the Metropolitan Opera, 2nd Armored Man in Magic Flute with the Metropolitan Opera, covered the role of Johan in Werther with the Metropolitan Opera and performed the Commendatore in Don Giovanni with Opera Orlando. He returns to the Met this season as a cover in the Met’s productions of Die Zauberflöte and the Met’s English adaptation of The Magic Flute.
A principal artist at the Met since 2007, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2014 in “Die Zauberflöte” and “Lady MacBeth of Mtsensk”. He has performed with Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Michael Tilson Thomas, Loren Maazel, Valery Gergiev, Keith Lockhart, Tan Dun, Paul Plishka, Isabel Leonard, Ana Maria Martinez, and Carlyle Floyd among others.
