Shannon McAlister is a PhD student and graduate teaching assistant in music theory and history at the University of Connecticut. Shannon is also currently working on a Graduate Certificate of Interdisciplinary Disability Studies in Public Health at UConn. Her research areas include music and disability studies, and music theory pedagogy. In May of 2022, Shannon earned her MA in Music Theory and a Graduate Certificate in College Instruction from the University of Connecticut.

Previously, Shannon attended the University of Delaware where she earned her BM in Music Education with a concentration in instrumental music. She also pursued a minor in Disability Studies during her time at UD. Shannon was also an undergraduate teaching assistant in music theory for two years. In her last year at UD, Shannon was awarded the Major John D. DeMartini Scholarship for demonstrating humanitarianism, professionalism, integrity, and unselfishness.

A native Long Islander, Shannon enjoys hiking across New England and exploring her surroundings while she resides in Connecticut.
