About

MUSI 1111 section 009

Monday 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This vocal ensemble is a large mixed choir comprised of UConn faculty, staff, and students as well as members of the Greater Storrs Community. The Festival Chorus rehearses once per week on Monday evenings – 7:00-9:00pm. This ensemble provides singers with the opportunity to be part of an outstanding community organization and to express themselves through the art of joyous choral singing. The chorus is conducted by award-winning composer and conductor Dr. Ellen Gilson Voth. The Festival Chorus typically collaborates annually with the UCONN Concert Choir and Symphony Orchestra in performances of choral/orchestral masterworks.  Recent performances included: Beethoven’s Symphony #9, The Brahms A German Requiem, and Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living. This semester the chorus will collaborate with the UConn Concert Choir and UConn Symphony Orchestra in presenting Carl Orff’s powerful Carmina Burana in December. Some experience singing in a choir and music sight-reading is recommended but all interested singers are welcome and encouraged to be part of this outstanding choral organization. Festival Chorus may be taken for no credit (with a small membership dues each semester) for anyone who is not a registered UConn student. Please contact Dr. Voth at ellen.voth@uconn.edu for further information. Interested community members and registered students please come to the first rehearsal, Monday, September 14th, at 6:30pm in room ZFA 103 in the UConn Music Building (across the street from Dog Lane Café).
