Steven Petersen


Prior to beginning his studies at UConn, Steven Petersen earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Western Michigan University, where he was named to the Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Music Fraternity, and a master’s degree in percussion performance from Southern Methodist University. His principal instructors were Judy Moonert, Douglas Howard, and Kalman Cherry. Notable world premieres include Two Pieces for Percussion by Richard Adams in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Birdsong by Scott Harding at the World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis, MN. A Member of the United States Coast Guard Band since 2003, Mr. Petersen has performed nationally and internationally and was a featured soloist for the Band on their 2019 Tour of the Midwest. Besides performing with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony, he has performed with orchestras in southwest Michigan and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
