Music Students
To schedule any recital, regardless of location, degree program, or performance medium, students must fill out the Recital Scheduling Form. Students will be scheduled in the following order: DMA, MM, PC, BM, and BA. BA recitals are elective and must only occur in the fall semester; exceptions can only be made by the Department Head. When you submit the Recital Scheduling Form, your applied instructor will automatically be notified and must approve your proposed recital dates in order to move forward with scheduling. Your recital will not be scheduled or confirmed unless your applied instructor has given the Theater Operations Manager their written approval.
At least three weeks prior to the recital date, the student is responsible for completing the Production Form (linked bel0w). FAQ’s
What are the requirements of an undergraduate curricular recital?
Recitals required for graduation are the junior half-recital and the senior recital. Both are preceded no later than 14 days prior to the recital date by a pre-recital hearing before a panel of no fewer than two faculty members. Students receive a designation of satisfactory or unsatisfactory for the hearing from each member of the faculty panel. A student must receive a designation of satisfactory from the panel to be considered to have passed the pre-recital hearing and permitted to present the scheduled recital. A student who does not pass the hearing is permitted one additional hearing. A student who does not pass the additional hearing will not be permitted to continue in the B.M. in Performance degree.
Recitals are adjudicated by a panel of no fewer than two faculty members. Students receive a designation of satisfactory or unsatisfactory for the recital from each member of the faculty panel. A student must receive a designation of satisfactory from the panel to be considered to have passed the recital. The applied teacher reports the result in writing to the teacher-of-record for Senior Recital, i.e., the Associate Head for Undergraduate Studies. A student who does not pass the recital is permitted one additional recital. A student who does not pass the additional recital will not be permitted to continue the B.M. degree track.
A student fulfilling the recital requirement during the 6th week of a semester or later is exempt from taking a jury in the same semester.
