Emily Cole (they/she) is the Educational Program Assistant in the Department of Music at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. They received their Bachelor of Arts in English, Bachelor of Science in Education, and Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in English Education from the University of Connecticut. They are a graduate of Glastonbury High School and gave the commencement address in 2013. Throughout their undergraduate and graduate studies, they concentrated in creative writing, specifically prose poetry and creative nonfiction. Their work has been published in the UConn Free Press and the Long River Review. In the summer of 2019, they held a residency with the Sancho Panza Literary Society at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Before joining the Department of Music, they managed Stafford Coffee Company in Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

Music has always been an integral part of Emily’s life. Their father, Jim Cole, is a harmonic overtone singer who founded Spectral Voices, a performing group that recorded their first two albums in a water tower, and their mother, Dr. Patricia Cole, is an organist and classical guitarist. Emily also plays cello and piano, and they performed in chamber orchestras throughout middle and high school. Jim and Patricia created the Gathering Room, a performance space in their home, in which both local and international musicians performed regularly throughout Emily’s childhood and adolescence. Growing up in a household of musicians instilled an innate appreciation and passion for music that they bring to their work in the Department of Music.

Emily currently lives in Coventry, Connecticut with their partner. In their free time, they enjoy hiking, cooking, reading, and photography.
