Music has always been an integral part of Emily’s life. Their father, Jim Cole, is a harmonic overtone singer who founded Spectral Voices, a performing group that recorded their first two albums in a water tower and their mother, Dr. Patricia Cole, is an organist and classical guitarist. Jim and Patti created the Gathering Room, a performance space in their home, in which local and international musicians performed regularly throughout Emily’s childhood and adolescence. Emily also plays cello and piano, and they performed in chamber orchestras throughout middle and high school. Growing up in a household of musicians instilled an innate appreciation and passion for music that they bring to their work in the Department of Music.

Emily currently lives in Coventry, Connecticut with their partner. In their free time, they enjoy hiking, cooking, reading, and photography.
